Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$47.38 per hundredweight May 11, up from $46.03 May 4.

U.S. hogs averaged $61.98 on a carcass basis May 11, up from $59.05 May 4. The U.S. pork cutout was $73.47 per cwt. May 11, up from $69.29 May 4. The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to May 12 was 2.313 million, down from 2.327 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.266 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the May 12 Signature Five price was C$145.36 per 100 kilograms, up from $142.65 the previous week. On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $65.93, up from $64.71.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices up to C$6 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.60 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$6. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.40. Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 853 sheep and lambs and 89 goats sold May 7. Light lambs sold $10-$15 cwt. lower. Heavy lambs and good sheep sold steady. Over-fat and quite lean sheep sold lower. Goats traded steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 426 sheep and 100 goats sold May 7.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-300 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $246-$295, 70-85 lb. were $245-$290, 86-105 lb. were $235-$278 and 106 lb. and heavier were $229-$240.

Wool rams were $90-$162 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$168.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $240-$280 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $240-$270, 70-85 lb. were $240-$275, 86-105 lb. were $220-$260 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$230.

Hair rams were $115-$175 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$150.
