WOODSTOCK, Ont. — A new dairy product has hit Ontario and may soon be on grocery store shelves elsewhere.
Rob London, senior product manager with the Gay Lea Foods Co-operative, said its Nordica Smooth cottage cheese products were two years in the making.
“It’s a brand new innovation in North America. We haven’t seen it in Europe either,” London said.
Regular cottage cheese has a lumpy, watery consistency. The flavoured, smooth cottage cheese that Gay Lea sells is similar in texture to leading Greek yogurt products but there are important differences, including 25 percent more protein.
“We wanted to offer up a product for people who don’t like cottage cheese but has the same benefits as cottage cheese. It’s high in protein and low in calorie,” he said.
