I am a paid Western Producer Subscriber, how do I find my username and password?

Your Username is your Western Producer account number.  You will find this number above your name on the label of your newspaper. It begins with a single letter and is followed by the letters MK.  The “MK” code is NOT part of your account number. A typical example account number would be A012345.

Your password is your phone number as recorded in your Western Producer record. If you did not provide us a phone number at the time you ordered your subscription, please contact the Subscriber Hotline.

Your telephone/initial password format is 123-456-7890

It is VERY IMPORTANT to change your password the first time you log on.

If you have any difficulties getting logged on you should call the Subscriber Hotline (1-800-667-6929).

If you are not a paid subscriber, you may subscribe online or by calling toll free 1-800-667-6929. Unpaid subscribers trying to access options reserved for paid subscribers will be presented an option to subscribe.

Full access to the web site will be available to you when you receive your first newspaper.  [[back to top]]

General Cookie Information

Both Internet Explorer and Netscape allow some level of cookie verification. They both have menu options that allow you to accept all, some, or none of your incoming cookies. In addition, the "warn before accepting" feature is present in both, if you want to screen your incoming cookies.

In Netscape, go to the “Edit/Preferences/Advanced” menu. Your cookie choices can be changed there.

Microsoft has changed their approach to cookies over the last 3 versions of their browser. This is a reflection of how cookies have been thrust into the limelight of privacy on the Internet:

  • In Internet Explorer 6, go to the “Tools/Internet Options/Privacy” menu. This menu allows you to select how discriminating the browser will be when accepting cookies, based on two factors -- (1) the source of the cookie, and (2) whether the source has a "privacy policy." There are also features for the advanced user, if you'd like to have a greater control over cookies.
  • In Internet Explorer 5, go to the “Tools/Internet Options/Security” menu. In there, you can choose the security level for 4 different browsing conditions: Internet Sites, Local Sites, "Trusted" Sites, and Restricted Sites. If you select "Internet," and click on Custom Level, you'll get a dialog box where you can accept all, warn before accepting, or reject all cookies.
  • In Internet Explorer 4, go to the “View/Internet Options/Advanced” menu. There you can accept all, warn before accepting, or reject all.  [[back to top]]

How Do I Change My Password/Profile?

On almost any page you will see a link labeled “Profile.”  That link brings up your web Membership information, including the option to change to your password. Simply enter your new password in both spaces and select Save Profile at the bottom of the form.  Note that a valid e-mail address is required so if you do not currently have one in your profile you will be asked to enter one before your profile changes are saved.  [[back to top]]

Links / Popup Windows

The Western Producer Online uses popup windows to “spawn” links to out side web sites. For example, if one of our stories refers to the Canola Council, we might include a link to their web site. Rather than having their web site open inside a frame of The Western Producer Online, we want to ensure that users are aware they are looking at a completely separate and independent site.  So we use the popup function. If you have disabled popup windows completely, you will be unable to access these links.

We may also use popup windows to deliver information related to the site itself, as we did to provide notice of the change to the Subscriber-preferred system we now use.

We do not use popup windows to deliver advertising.  [[back to top]]
