The 113th Calgary Bull Sale held March 7 saw a smaller offering of Hereford and Angus cattle from Alberta purebred breeders.
The grand champion Hereford and high seller came from the Gordon Henderson family, owners of Little Poplar Grove Herefords at Forestburg. It sold for $35,000 to Crone Herefords of Hardisty, Alta.
The reserve champion was the entry of Fenton Hereford Ranch of Irma. It sold for $17,000 to Scott Pahl of Medicine Hat.
The grand champion Angus was the entry of Chad Lorenz of Markerville. The buyer was M & R Damen Farms of Strathmore who paid $7,000 for the champion black bull. The reserve bull was the consignment of Four L Cattle Holdings, Stettler. It sold for $5,300.
Fifteen pens of commercial replacement heifers were also shown. The grand champion was from Bushfield Farms of Airdrie.
The annual ranch horse sale was topped by an entry from Clinton Brost of Consul, Sask. His palomino gelding fetched $10,750 from Pahl Livestock, Medicine Hat. The second high seller went to John Scott of Longview for $10,000 and was consigned by Roworth and Cameron Ranch, Czar.
